Be Still and Know That I Am God

Psalm 46:10

The title for this blog just popped into my head one night. I’d been thinking about blogging for a couple of years, but never came up with a title I liked, made a bunch of excuses about why I didn’t have time, and what would I say, and then I was challenged to do it, and here I am.

For me, Deep Water is a good metaphor for life. Our toes never touch the bottom, we never know what’s going on underneath us, we spend our time flailing our arms and kicking our feet just to keep our heads above the waves, and quite frequently we sink. And the Still Life comes from one of my favorite verses in the Bible, “Be still, and know that I am God”. (Psalm 46:10)

There’s an old Van Morrison song, off his Avalon Sunset CD, and the refrain is, “when will I ever learn to live in God?”. That’s the meaning of my title: to learn to exist in deep water, by being still and knowing that God is.

The Lord bless you and keep you

The Lord make His face shine upon you

And be gracious to you

The Lord lift up His countenance upon you

And give you peace.

(Numbers 6:23)
